Ingredients

  • ¾ cup white granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • A pinch of salt
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Biscuits for serving

Instructions

  • Place a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add sugar, cocoa powder, flour, and salt and whisk until thoroughly combined. Slowly whisk in milk, Pouring in about ½ of a cup at a time. Whisk until dissolved, ensuring the mixture is smooth and lump-free.
  • Cook the mixture, stirring constantly, until it begins to thicken. This should take about 5-7 minutes. Be careful not to let the mixture boil too vigorously, which can cause it to burn.
  • Once the gravy has thickened to your desired consistency, remove it from the heat. Stir in the butter and vanilla extract until the butter is fully melted, smooth, and glossy.
  • Pour the warm chocolate gravy over freshly baked biscuits, pancakes, or ice cream. Enjoy!

Notes

Buttermilk biscuits are the most common pairing, though any type of biscuit works well. You can try it with Mayonnaise Biscuits. This gravy also tastes amazing on pancakes, French toast, and even waffles!
