Carrots in the air fryer are pretty darn amazing. The one thing I love about it is how fast they can be made compared to the oven. Traditionally, roasted carrots in the oven take about 30 minutes to get perfectly tender and charred, but with the air fryer, you can cut that time down to about 20 minutes.
Since I can never make up my mind about anything, I’ve included two recipes for air fryer carrots (one sweet and one savory) and will discuss my method and process for both.
How to make Air Fryer Carrots
Sweet
For the sweet version of this recipe, you will need the following ingredients: Carrots, brown sugar, butter, and salt. Feel free to add a pinch of cinnamon if you like.
First, wash and peel the carrots. You can leave the peel on if you prefer, but I found that the peel gives the carrots a slight bitter taste. If peeling, use a vegetable peeler so you don’t peel off too much of the carrot.
Next, chop carrots into 1 inch large chunks and place in a large bowl. Pour melted butter, brown sugar, and salt over carrots and stir until the carrots are fully coated.
Transfer carrots into an oven safe bowl that will fit in your air fryer. Cook on 380 degrees Fahrenheit for 20-25 minutes, stirring halfway. Salt to taste.
Why the bowl? I’ve tested these carrots with and without the bowl for this sweet method. Without the bowl, the butter and sugar mixture seemed to drip right off the carrots, before it had a chance to really caramelize and flavor the carrots. In the bowl, the carrots are able to cook and caramelize in the butter mixture and results in much better flavor.
If you can't find a bowl that will fit your air fryer, you could use a little bit of foil paper in the bottom of the basket.
Savory
For the savory version of these air fryer carrots, you will need the following: Carrots, olive oil, garlic powder, and paprika. You can also use any other seasoning mix you like, such as this all-purpose seasoning.
Wash and peel your carrots. Place carrots in a large bowl and toss with olive oil, garlic powder, and paprika.
Place in the air fryer basket and cook on 380 degrees Fahrenheit for 15-20 minutes, shaking halfway through.
Once done, top with parsley and parmesan cheese. Salt and pepper to taste.
How to store leftover air fryer carrots
Store cooled carrots in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. Cooked carrots will last up to 9 months in the freezer.
How to reheat carrots in the air fryer
To reheat carrots, add the carrots to the air fryer basket and reheat on 350 degrees Fahrenheit for a few minutes, about 4-7, until reheated through.
Notes
- You could use baby carrots if you prefer but they won’t taste exactly the same. The larger carrots have much better flavor when roasted.
- The size of your carrots will determine how long you need to cook them. Smaller carrots will cook faster while larger carrots will take longer. Check on your carrots halfway through cooking to determine doneness.
- To use frozen carrots, add a few minutes to the cook time. Season halfway through cooking if using frozen carrots.

The carrots turned out perfectly! Delicious and satisfying, thank you!
Patricia says
I made your carrot recipe last night with the butter and brown sugar. But I cut the carrots in 3 inch quarters because it would take less time to cook. I have the Power XL air fryer and since I did not have a bowl to put in the fryer I. Placed some tin foil curling the edges and mixed the carrot, butter and brown sugar in a bowl then placed the carrots on the foil in the air fryer. Put it on French fries and dropped the temp to 360 for 7 min. Then moved the carrots around and baked another 7 min and they turned out great.nice and crispy. So glad I found your site. Now going to look for more of your recipes. Oh, about the Bella Air Fryer. Amazon shows that they are not in stock and do not know when the manufacturer will have any. I assume it is because of the basket peeling. Your Phillips air fryer is nice but very expensive....
Tanya says
Thanks so much, Patricia! Good to know about the Bella, I still have mine and didn't have the peeling issues, but I only handwash it. I also have a Cosori 5.8qt and so far, it's been working pretty well too.
Marian says
Thanks for the Yellow Rice recipe. I have trouble swallowing rice after cooking, but I'll try this with the seasonings in it. It looks and sounds so good!
Tina Bailey says
Question..Are you roasting the sweet carrots versus air fry?
Tanya says
I'm air frying them.
Pam says
Question: I am making the sweet recipe and the butter and brown sugar do NOT mix. They stay separated so that carrots have nice coating of left-over butter but brown sugar/butter mixture is in clumps? i.e. brown sugar is not absorbing the butter. What did I do wrong? Thank you! They're air frying now and I will just keep trying to mix in those "globs" 🤗
Tanya says
Hi Pam, I pour melted butter, sugar, and stir in the bowl until coated rather than stirring the brown sugar and butter together before adding it. I'm wondering if that's the issue you're having with it clumping together.
Mary Carter says
I made the savory carrots, I'm so pleasantly surprised with the way this recipe turned out! The flavors are great and the crunch reminded me of french fries. Such a wonderful recipe, I cannot wait to try more of your creations.
Russ says
So, my air fryer has other settings like, "bake." Should I assume "air fry?"
Tanya says
Yes, you would use the air fry setting on your machine.
Annette says
I am looking forward to making these. Can I make these using olive oil as I do not have butter?
Tanya says
Hi Annette, yes olive oil would work fine as long as it's not extra virgin.
Dawn Robinson says
This recipe is so delicious I've made it several times and also shared with relatives? Husband approved??
Tanya says
Thank you Dawn 🙂 So glad you liked the recipe.
Kiana Johnson says

Donna Cutler says
I see you feature the bella air fryer in this post. Is that the one you use on your youtube channel? ZI'm looking to buy one for the 4 of us and was wondering what brands you recommend. Thanks!
Tanya says
Hi Donna. I have used the Bella on my youtube videos although my newer videos I use the Phillips xxl. I like the Bella Pro a lot and I think it's a great air fryer for the price, but Phillips is my favorite due to the way the basket is shaped. One thing to note about the Bella is to make sure you take care of the basket and wash it after every use. I also wouldn't put it in the dishwasher. Overtime, the basket will start to peel if you don't take care of it. But other than that, it's great.
